ggkk, ORP is the short form for Oxidation-Reduction Potential. It is a measure of tank water’s capacity to oxidize material. Most, if not all, waste products of fish are reducing agents that can make tank water low in ORP. Ozone can increase the oxidizing power of the water. That means ozone can oxidize waste products into a less toxic form to fish. When ORP is low, it indicates waste products are accumulating in the tank. When enough ozone is added to water, ORP increases. High ORP (300 - 400) means water quality is good. Low ORP (<200) means water quality is poor. One need an ORP meter to measure ORP. If you do not use ozone, you will not need a ORP meter. |
