Do my tank have any problem?

1 于 2002-11-21 19:50      Hi everybody: I have a custom made tank size 60'x30'x30' (700L) and use trickle filter size (30'x18'). which is for fish and coral. The trickle filter using filter moss, bio ball and bio ring (from japan) as filter media, and using azoo brand protein skimmer, marco brand no3 reducer, knop brand calcium reactor, and azoo 40watts uv light. Then using two pump pump the water back to the main tank, one is 60L per minute, and one is 110L per minute.( it was claim by the manufactory, they are sanso brand and from japan) the big one is conect to the chiller and blow from the surface and running 24 hrs and the small one is blow on the surface of the crash coral and running from 9pm to 8 am. In the main tank, i have put under grave filter under the crash coral (2 inch thick) with a pump sucking and blow back to the main tank. I using FL for lighting, using 2 40 watts 20,000k(coral reef from usa), 1 40 watts 10,000k, and 3 blue 30 watts.    The tank have been set up and running for six month, salt is using deep ocean brand. it have a local made chiller to cool the water, the water temp. at 26~27c. I can see the water is not clear and clean, I can see the dirty thing circulate in the main tank for a long time, but then again there are a lot of dirt lay in the filter, after the filter moss (4 ~ 5 inch thick)and those bio ball and bio ring. now the problem are, fish are die one by one, not fighting each other, eating well, but hide under the rock, not active, some were swimming from side to side, and seem breathing very fast . 2 于 2002-11-21 21:37           jiab your tank's depth is really 30" which is equal to its height(30") ? could you tell where do you buy the coral reef FL tube i know it for long from magazine but just cant find in mongkok my view is 1. you better use an more effective protein skimmer i would suggest H&S http://www.hs-aquaristik.de/Englisch/Abschaumerengl/hauptteil_abschaumerengl.html in short term , you may apply high quality active carbon. other issues to be considered include: i. how do you prepare the water for waterchange? have you checked the parameter of your newly prepared saltwater? do you use RO/DI water for waterchanges? ii. what do you feed your fish? do they pollute your tank water? iii. what is the parameter of your tank water now? say, NH3/NO2/NO3/pH etc? iv. have you ever applied medicaton to your tank? if so, what kind of medicine are they? the more info. you can provide, the more likely fellow hobbists can help

3 于 2002-11-22 11:58      Jay: my tank is 60x30x30, d=h, the FL tube I was brought in Thailand, is from made by a company call "engery saving co ltd" in usa. thanks for the advise on proteim skimmer, but we don't have this is thailand. we do have tune, red sea, and tawan brand and very old modle using air pump with sand stone. but the azoo is working quite ok, I do have to clear the skimmer for 2 week, the dirty is very sticky and stingy. I have use active carbon 1 kg, it made from coconut shell, it shoul be the best material. but i am not leave the active carbon in the filter tank for long, mostly i will leave it for 3- 4 day than take it out for about a week. i: i use to desolve the salt with tap water, because the water from where i live is quite ok, i with put the conditioner (sera brand from german) into the water to stable the water. then using power head to run the water for awhile, then pump into the tank. ii: i use sera mix with one japanese brand (x treme if i am not wrong) to feed my fish. i use auto feeder to feed my fish, on a schedule 3 times a day, and if i am home, i with give them extra like frozen shrimp. iii: the ph is 8.2 the no 2 and no3 was in the light orange colour, i don't know the reading, but compare with the box is said it was good to ok level, i use sera as tester. iv: i use only HBH balance block and sera product for coral. thank you jay for your interest.

4 于 2002-11-22 19:41      what is your main problem.......bit floating around? try to take a picture of the whole set up.....( a picture a better than a thousand word) may be in that case, we can have a better understand of your problems... looking forward to your photo! busy busy happy happy.....:D

5 于 2002-11-23 09:16      Hi Jiab, hello its me again i have following comments on your setup:- 1. dont use UGF, easy get clogged 2. dont use crash coral, easy trap debris 3. your lighting is not enough for a tank of your size if it is reef tank 4. the direction of water current must have some problem, need to see before comment further 5. take a photo of the trickle chamber and your sump for reference please i just wonder whether the tank finished the n-cycle or not.... awaiting your photos

6 于 2002-11-23 10:22      hi all: the tank has been using for over two years, but before moving to new place, everything is ok. the tank had been seu up and running for a little bit more than 6 months, it should be pass the n-cycle, i may try to stop running the pump which conect to the ufg, but no 底沙, how can those goby and sea pen survive ? and refer to the lighting problem, i wanna have pl instead of MH, we don't have good quality PL lighting system, we have china made product around, and thailand is a very hot country, using MH the temp with raise very fast, than you have to turn down the temp on chiller, the power consumer is ...............you know, i will borrow a camera from friend

11 于 2002-11-28 15:36      any suggest for my new tank, please, the new tank size to replace the broken tank is 60x24x30, fish and soft coral tank, i will use the old equipment except, light, i just brough two 150w MH with 13000k( shop say)bulb. the bio boaal and bio ring has move to the other tank, so do i still to wait for the n-cycle, or just wait for the salt and water mixed for a day or two then put coral and fish in.

14 于 2002-12-02 13:02      before move to new place, the tank use steel frame, it sit on it for three years without problem, but move to here, with new wood stand, it last for over six month, the first thing is, the stand is the main problem. maybe you will said the tank become weak when move, but i hire eight people to move and i watch it all over from old place to new place. the shop come to put the new piping too, no other people touch it, the shop check the tank before put the water in. so the stand will be the source. but i will check it again before the new tank come.
