It needs a lot of research and discipline to make a small tank work. There is some wonderful articles for nano tanks. Check them out:- http://www.nano-reef.com/articles/ That said, there are a couple of things you may want to do before your research is done: 1. From the photo, there should be a under gravel filter in your tank. You may want to change the Rio pump to blow into the tube. This is a good way to use UGF without the drawbacks. 2. Continue to feed (a couple of flakes everyday) the tank even if there is no fish. This will feed the bacteria for the n-cycle. 3. Since you have the test paper, continue to test the water every few days. You will see that ammonia goes up first, follow by NO2. After the NO2 comes back down to near zero, then will be the time to stock the tank. 4. Stock the tank with discipline, a rule of thumb is 1 gallon (about 4 liter) of water can sustain 1 inch fish. You may be able to have 2 very small fishes in the tank. Read more about the fish you like before buying. You may be amazed by the good books in our public library. If you are a Nemo fan, clown fish (the Nemo look alikes) is actually a good choice, but never ever buy the tangs (Dory). They can only live in big tanks, and will die in yours. The small clowns sold in fish street often have disease. Be prepared. 5. Even with the $10 small clowns, they will outgrown your tank in a year. And yes, clowns are long live. They have a lifespan of 8 years. So, you will have to move them to a bigger tank down the road. Good luck. |
