dear toto, i certainly welcome any comment from anyone and i understand absolutely your argument. yes, to an extent, fish keepers are encouraging the marine life suppliers to dig out lives from the ocean. however, i presume the marine lives we could purchase from shops are imported from legal channels as countries which have abundant marine resources are gaining the $$$ by exporting their own marine animals in a controlled and licensed manner. and this broad assumption could sometimes be wrong as some marine suppliers might not be doing the business according to the rules and regulations set out by the corresponding gov't, and this kind of illegal act is something not within our control. thus, what i suggest to do is we should purchase marine animals via legal channels, not via personal reach for freebies even if we have the chance to do so. on the other hand, people are more hesitant for getting something home with a price tag and once people find the price tag is gone on beaches or underwater (and no matter if that something is attractive at all as long as it's FREE), they would tend to take that home without much hesitation. As long as we are buying marine animals, there would still be a demand & supply equation working behind the scene and rare species could sometimes cost thousands or even tens of thousands which would scare many away. however, when the price tag is gone, you could imagine how the situation could turn into? i ain't an extremist on this kind of issue but as a scuba diver, what i have learnt from lesson one is NEVER take thing out from the ocean when diving and this idea has rooted in my brain since then. thanks a lot for your feedback. anno |
