WWLWORLD, Scuba Diving indeed is a very eye-opening experience. I tried it twice and fell in love with the Reef more than ever before. There're 2 things we can do as hobbyist: Sue the owner, don't think it's possible to have an effect in HK. Will NOT buy any livestock from these kind of shops, simply BOYCOTT them. I do have a rebuttal though. Yes, it was animal cruelty for the fish to die with great pain and suffered a great deal, but ultimately it ended up on a dinner plate as food for some human beings. Evaluate what we do to the Reef environment, we as hobbyists bought ???? fishes to take them home and ultimately killed them, they didn't end up on our dinner plate, but buried in the garbage .... total WASTE of lives. Though our faults or not, we're contributing to the deaths of thousands of fishes taken from their precious homes, living their happy lives before. So what's the bottom line? For the advanced hobbyists, please share and help out the novice hobbyists, spread the knowledge. For the beginners, please don't jump into this hobby without reading up on how to do it right. Read books first, talk to the knowledgable guys (not the Fishstore owners), ask questions of this forum. I've read lots of threads about guys putting fishes into tanks which weren't even CYCLED. Finally ..... it's not hard to keep saltwater fishes, but you've got to be very PATIENT. Whenever there're fishes in tank, you must ensure your water parameters are always: pH at 8.0 or above NH3/4 (Ammonia) is always ZERO NO2 is always ZERO temp is between 22-26C Before you take your wallet out to buy your favorite fish, find out its dietary needs, compatibility with other fishes already in your tank. Know which one is Predatory, which one is not. Last thing you want to do is to put a predatory fish or invertebrae into your tank to eat up all shrimps and fishes. You would be saving a lot of your pain/heartache and money. |
