Question about setup a new tank

1 于 2002-03-24 01:22      I would like to setup a new tank (from Canister Filter to "Dick Lau" System). . My target tank size is 40"W x 16"D x 24"H. I have some questions and hope any of you can give me an answer for the following questions:- 1. How much for the tank + sump tank + needed sump pump + Bio-ball 2. Installation cost included? or need to setup by myself? 3. Can I use Prizm Skimmer for this tank? I will use sand bottle, no UGF. Just a thin layer of sand only. 4. Should I need to upgrade my current 11W UV light? 5. Which lighting system recommended (brand & model)? This is a FOT and no need any special lighting. Perfer to use "chopstick tube flourscent tube". I believe it is most bright than the normal flourscent tube. 6. FS Shopkeeper told me that 1 sump pump can operate the whole "Dick Lau System" Is it right? Many thanks.

3 于 2002-03-24 14:38      swu, 1.)缸+沙缸+地櫃在川記order要$4,500(我的缸尺吋係40"x20"x30"，跟你的有些小出入，可能你個會平小小)。至於泵佢會介紹你用Iwaki40RX$1180。生物球就十分平宜，大包的約$80多元，而你的缸大約雖要包半。生物環則豐儉由人，大約雖要15L左右。 2.)一切喉管及所需物品都巳經準備好，如果你識安裝當然最好，否則盛惠$1,300大元。還有他們是會收你運輸費的，價錢因地區而定。 3.)不需要沙樽了，生物球和生物環巳經取替咗沙樽嘅功效。 4.)根據我的記憶，11W嘅UV巳經夠用，你可以再查詢一下。 5.)如你現有的光管長度適中就不用再買了。 6.)正確，Iwaki pump係足夠power嘅。 養魚係一個贏贏的遊戲---a Win-Win game. 4 于 2002-03-24 15:56      Thanks 2 of you. Kenny, I believe u have 3 chamber in the sump tank. Are they evenly distributed? Should I need to have a bigger size of the last chamber to cater the skimmer in a future? On the other hand, u said that 1 and a half bag of bio-ball should be needed for my targetted size. Is it included the chamber inside the tank (water in-let part) or just only for the 1st chamber of the sump? Please clarify and thanks.

5 于 2002-03-24 19:32      swu, 正確D講，我個沙缸分做五格。 第一格係沙缸嘅入水口，放過濾棉和生化棉。水由第一格下部流過去第二格。 第二格係"吉"嘅，你可以放暖管、skimmer或種海草都可以。如果你想放skimmer的話，這一格就要造闊小小。水從第二格上方流過去第三格。 第三格全部放生物環，雖要15L差唔多。水從第三格下部流過去第四格。 第四格好窄，只得一寸。其作用只有一個，因為水雖要由第四格嘅上方流過去第五格，所以先有第四格嘅存在。 第五格有三份二嘅位係由生物環佔據，下面就係沙缸嘅出水口，連接泵和喉管把水打回主缸。這樣就完成一個cycle. 為何雖要1.5包生物環，因為我缸內有大小各一嘅瀑布，所以就雖要咁多。我就係因為喜愛川記嘅沙缸設計，所以先找佢幫我造缸。 養魚係一個贏贏的遊戲---a Win-Win game. 6 于 2002-03-24 20:45      Kenny, Can you tell me what type of shape for your inlet part of the "dick lau system", rectangluar / triangular (I mean the portion inside the fish tank)? If possible, can you post some picture for me as a reference (both fish tank & sump tank)? Many Many Many thanks.

8 于 2002-03-26 10:40      The dimension of my sump is 28"x15"x18". I got a DC already but I'm still waiting for the ram card (out of store). 14 于 2002-03-26 23:45      There is no display & description about the Prizm Pro at Red Sea Web Site. I have already send an email to them to get some information regarding this item. As u said, this skimmer should hang at the back of the tank. I think if I hang it inside the sump should also be OK, right.
