本人有小小問題前兩日開缸200公升水。
我有一支AA250w暖管壞了感溫器是長開的水溫可到35度。
請問35度水溫可不可縮短養水時間？
硝化細菌會不會死亡？
開缸用什麼箘、PSB或普通硝化細菌？
請多多指教。

根本冇真正方法可以縮短養水期. 我初開缸時都有用Sure-Start及Nitromax Marine, 它們的確很有效, 個幾月ammonia就由peak去到0了. 到了現在差不多四個月, ammonia always kept at 0, 但NO2仲未跌到0. 即是四個幾月都未完成個cycle, 可能自己唔夠料掛. 現在真係得個"等"字. 你都係唔好expect有乜方法可以快速完成個cycle喇. Patience is the key to success in this hobby, as the advanced hobbyists said. I trust it's true now.

If U really want to fast start, put a 50:1 Aquacharger into your tank. Very $$

Iczfirz, is it really work? Can it improve my current situation? For the same filtration-media volume, will AquaChargers do better than the conventional bio-rings? Hope you know what I mean la.

My tank has similar size as yours. I started my tank about 3 weeks ago. So far I am quite happy with my results. Here is my experience:

1) I added a bottle of Biostarter (Sera), finished it in 10 days.
2) I put in about 40 lbs live rocks in total.
3) I put a few damselfishes, they all survive.
4) I put 3 butterflies at the early stage, they all died.
5) After 3 weeks, NH3 and NO2 both were almost zero.

I think the live rock in my tank helped a lot for the cycle. I didn't use AquaCharger, so I have no knowledge on it. But I belive live rock can achieve some purposes of AquaCharger. In fact, live rock may be a better choice, since it stays with your tank forever and can help your tank to have a natural looking, although it is more expensive initially. If you would like to have live rock, make sure that 1) do not wash them through fresh water; 2) good cured rocks have no unpleasant smell. DO NOT BUY SMELLY ROCKS.

It may be even better if you have live rock and AquaCharger.

The temperature of your tank is certainly too high.

According to literature (http://ce.ecn.purdue.edu/~alleman/w3-articles/nitrifier-physiology/nitrifier-behavior.html), the optimal condition for the growth of nitrifying bacteria is -

- pH 7.5 - 8.5
- temperature 20 - 30 degree Celsius
(at 35C they enter a region of potential life-threatening stress, at 40C their activity completely stops)
- continuous oxygen supply
- salt osmotic pressure - tolerable to osmotic change
- light sensitive - they should be light-shielded

That means, if the tank has pH less than 7.5, temperature higher than 30C, lack of oxygen supply, and the biological filter under direct illumination, these nitrifying bacteria will not be functioning well and will result in failure of the tank.
