I took a few snails from wet market. The price is HK$14/lb, but since I only asked for a few, so the saleslady gave me free.

Certainly they eat algae ---- I saw them eating.

The size of the snails is quite large, average 1.75" in diameter.

From a reader point of view, I was often surprised that people would pay to get a snail / hermit crab from marine shops. Nowaday they are sold in bag but they are merely local hermits with, perhaps, has been changed to a more nice looking shell to increase their saleable value.

Although redleg hermits are rare in HK, agae-eating snails and brown/green legs hermits can be found along the shores in Sai Kung (of course, the question is whether you would go there). In addition, mangroove seeds are sometimes floating around Sai Kung / Clear water bay.

Once I was chatting to a seafood restaurant owner and he got a bit excited and threw in a crab to the trigger tank to show me how they feed. To us treasures like snails, hermits have very little value to the wet market/seafood restaurant keeper.
