1)For FISH ONLY tank:
most carbon last for 1-2 month in tank, replace it regularly, otherise,
it will have too much micro-stuff sticking on it that may reduce the effectiveness of absorbing harmful elements.
you know, Carbon is a very passive and static materials.
2) For PLANT ONLY or Fish-plant tank:
Many foreign websites mention that no active carbon should be put into
such tank, especially planted tank. because Carbon will absorb not only
medicine materials( if you added before), but also the Trace elements for
plants.
you can put the active carbon once a month and about a week for each time. Then, it may effectively use the Carbon to aborb any harmful elements
in your tank.
