Hi, Just want to share some experience in reducing NO3....but I am still under researching... I have been using my old small Eheim 2231 canister filter for reducing NO3, with the INPUT hose (12mm Diameter) 80 feets long and OUTPUT hose 5 feets long. Fill the water in the Eheim and left for 3 days then I turn it on.... NO3 were dropped from 50mg/L to 5~7mg/L in the 3rd week AND I have been running it for 2.5 months now......its going OK.....and no feeding is required.....NO3 stay at ~5 mg/L in my test. I think any Canister filter can be used in this method.....my eheim power is 300L/hr....but I think it reduced much after I installed the long hose... I thiink the key in reducing NO3 is using longer hose...bringing up aerobic process. My tank is 36" about 50 gal....fish and reef...no sump,a prizm skimmer, a tank-top wet/dry filter... Give me comments PS- media in the eheim- Small Bio balls, Bio rings and SeaChem-Matrix. Nuggy
