It only have air pump,upper filter(cotton 3 pieces),add 10ml PSB every day. Thx all. 中文表達:QT缸如何keep倒3週no2不升????? 我的QT tank是一個大衣箱40L水左右 有氣泵,上至filter內有白綿三片用1000/L頭上水 每次買新魚回來,便在主缸泵舊水落QT 缸約3/4高度(35-40L), 全部新開水都試過(都是很快no2升高) 落回20ml消化菌(每天) 通常4-5天便出事的,no2升高至1.6-2,新魚便蒙羽,不吃等等. 請問各高手有冇辦法keep倒2-3週有良好的水質. 是不是天天都要換水??? 請教教小弟,Thx. | |

Posted by: clownfish Posted on: 2003-11-05 17:43 40L QT tank are very easy high no2 in 3-4 days, is cause by not enough bacterial to change NO2 to NO3 . so............ countermeasure is to increase the bacterial. so normaly how many fish /how many inch of fish u will keep at QT ?? when your QT are stable for example 1x 2" fish. than when u add new fish 1x2" , >>> QT have 2x2" fish ( 200% NH3 ) than bacterial not enough to support >>>>>> NO2 high. xx( so idea 1) when new fish add , transfer the old fish to main tank first. so >no increase NH3 /NO2 :D idea 2 ) increse QT fish q'ty . if QT have 4x2" fish, new add 1x2" fish ( bioload increse 25% >>> NO2 litle increse ) just personal thinking. :D | |

Posted by: clownfish Posted on: 2003-11-06 11:21 So kah :D:D than of'coz your QT NO2 will go high lar , your QT just start the N-cycle :D:P just personal thinking :D 1) .,(我試過從沙缸取了一包 環放在QT tank的"上慮水箱"中都唔得) try use more 環. and install 上慮水箱 at main tank or sump tank. when set up QT only move it to QT. hope this can help to build more bacterial to support your QT. 2) if still can not maybe u have to 換水 lor.:( ps: i have a strong feeling that when u set up QT , u had sucess to transfer some bacterial into your QT >> therefore high no2 in 3-4 days ( mean have bacterial to change NH3 to NO2 ) , but seem like the bacterial (NO2 to NO3 ) r not enough. this is my thinking. so u have to try to transfer more bacterial into your QT. this is my htinking :D:D | |

I tested NO2 and NO3 are very low in my 550L tank (with 13 fish, BAD skimmer, and also, I always overfeed, hehe... it's my problem) By the way, I use not just MATRIX but also SEACHEM De*Nitrate as well. -------------------------------------- Some description : de*nitrate[$#8482] is a high porosity filtration product for the removal and control of nitrate in marine and freshwater aquaria by anaerobic denitrification. It is a porous inorganic solid about 4 mm in diameter. It can be used in a canister filter at slow flow rates or even on the tank bottom as a “live” substrate. It does not require a special denitrifying filter or special culture feedings. It is also helpful in controlling nitrite and ammonia. The surface area characteristics of de*nitrate[$#8482] are similar to Matrix[$#8482], making de*nitrate[$#8482] an effective support for the biological filter. Each liter treats up to 100 gallons. By the way, as described, the total surface area of Matrix is 40 times of bio-ball !!! So, by my naive calculation, it should be 40 times effective than same volume of ball, right ? I placed Matrix in high water flow filter, and packed de*nitrate in bag and placed on the surface of sand-bed where with fewer water flow, just behind life-stone. Also, I use SEACHEM PhosGuard too, to remove red hair algae. It's work, but slowely. I will also change to use SEACHEM MATRIXCARBON to replace original cheap active carbon that using cos I suspect cheap carbon release phosphates that glow red hair algae. ------------------------------ Some description : PhosGuard[$#8482] is a high capacity and high efficiency filtration product for removing phosphates and silicates from marine or fresh water aquaria. Unlike competing products, PhosGuard[$#8482] is bead-shaped for optimum flow characteristics and has an exceptional porosity for enhanced capacity. PhosGuard[$#8482] has a working capacity to remove 20 to 60 mg/L phosphate in 100 gallons with a similar impact on silicates.
