Posted by: roy Posted on: 2002-03-22 18:26 我新買鱆KUV燈(50W)十臭氧機、ORP CONTROLLER。

Posted by: LC Posted on: 2002-03-22 22:16 Roy, I am sorry to hear about the death of your fish. I suggest you stop using the oznoniser immediately for the time being. Ozone should be used and contained inside a protein skimmer. Ozone is toxic to living organism and the bubbles of ozone should not leak inside the tank at all. The optimum level of ORP is between 350 to 390 mV although a range of 300 to 340 mV is very good already. However the ORP meter must be calibrated before use. The reading of your meter may be under scaled. ORP of more than 400 mV is toxic to fish. Alternatively, is the feed back loop of your ORP correctly connected to your ozoniser? If it is not, the ozoniser may be over working causing overdose of ozone. What brand is your ozoniser? It is very powerful indeed.

Posted by: omicron Posted on: 2002-03-22 22:25 ozone真係好毒架.......

Posted by: roy Posted on: 2002-03-23 02:11 咁ORP怎樣升至300--400水平、係咪要從新在開缸至何以養魚 THXxx(

Posted by: wankel Posted on: 2002-03-23 03:03 OH, no, The O3 is not suggested to use, this will kill fish and make U have cancer.!!! Very OLD SPOT. Stop using it and keep your tank like old time with UV is oked. Wait for 1 week then U can start add fish again, Too bad to heard that kind of old spot again !! :(

Posted by: LC Posted on: 2002-03-23 09:14 ORP is a measurement of how good the tank water is in eliminating organic wastes. The higher the reading, the better is its power. ORP is high if the following is present - - oxygen content high - ozoniser installed - water change - drop in pH (1 pH drop = 60 mV increase) - ORP probe placed too close to ozoniser or CO2 reactor ORP is low if the following is present - too many fish - dead fish - overfeeding - poor filtration - high water temperature - NO2 High ORP value (300 - 400 mV) implies that the water condition is good. Low value (<200 mV) implies poor water condition. However, ORP value does not tell you what area in the tank is problematic. You need to check item by item as listed above for the cause of low ORP reading. The reading of ORP will fluctuate with a day. A single reading of low value may not be important. The overall daily trend of ORP readings is more important.

Posted by: LC Posted on: 2002-03-23 09:30 Roy, Why did you need to install UV lamp and ozoniser in your tank? Did some of your fish develop white spot disease and therefore you installed both of them to control the infection? If some of your fish had white spot disease before the installation, your fish might not be dying of the new devices. They were installed too late. In fact, ozoniser is a good device. It can kill those germs like a UV lamp does. It can even detoxify organic wastes into non-toxic substances to the fish. It can convert organic matters into a soluble form that the protein skimmer can handle more effectively. That means, it can slow down the rise of NO3 level. It can remove the fishy smell of the water and polish the water into crystal clean. A UV lamp cannot do all these. However, the utilization of ozoniser must be very cautious. Ozone is just like fire. If you use it correctly, ozone can be very useful.

Posted by: guardian Posted on: 2002-03-23 09:48 Roy, I switch my ozoniser on @ 30 mg, 3hrs each day for 400L FOT. It can cure white spots quickly. If there's no disease syptoms, I just turn it on @ 5mg, 12 hrs each day. PS take a fresh water bath for the sick fish can help them recover quickly in ozonised water.

Posted by: LC Posted on: 2002-03-23 12:33 Guardian, What kind of tubing are you using for the connection between your ozoniser and the skimmer. I have been using silicon tubing and other ordinary tubing. All of them deteriorated very quickly. Norprene is frequently quoted as the recommended tubing for ozone. Do you have any suggestion?

Posted by: guardian Posted on: 2002-03-23 14:25 LC, I just use the cheapest pvc tube come with air pump ja. But it didnt deteriorated wor. Where did you buy norprene tube? And what is norprenee in Chinese?

Posted by: LC Posted on: 2002-03-23 16:47 I have tried ordinary tubing for air pump and hard silicon tubing for CO2. They changed colour in the first two weeks, weakened in structure, melted with plastic smell and cracked along their length within one month. I searched in the web with the key words "ozne resistant tubing" and I found norprene which is the most frequently quoted ozone resistant tubing. It costs US$30 per 50ft/pack. I do not know its name in Chinese.
