I started my 150L FOT tank about 6 months ago with only a power head and skimmer. Currently there are 6 fishes (from 1.5" - 3") and they are doing well. NO2 = 0 and NO3 ~ 20. | |

Ideally, the system is good for larger coral tank but as I said it will work if you don't overload the system by keeping too many fishes because the bio-filter cannot handle it. Since my tank is still very young and I do 1/3 water change every 1-2 week even when it seems not necessary. | |

You can find some white plastic board with squre holes in the sign making shop in fish street to separate the Plenum and the fine sand. If you are considering using live sand system then I don't think using 假滴漏 / sump in addition is necessary, or even defeat the purpose of the live sand system. I don't know whether it will work or not. You may ask other expert. I have tried the 'red/yellow dragon' before but for some reason they don't live long. I brought a hermit crab yesterday and it really helps to clean up the sand surface. Cheers. | |

Hope you understand the names. Regarding the number/size of fishes, the following is the reply that I got from LTY of PH8.4 for a 120L FOT: For length less than 10 cm, 5 fish is limited. For length larger than 10 cm, 2 fish is maximum. To Rowdy Tang, I got the live sand from a beach in Shen Zhen. I think you may get it from some clean beach in Sei Kong and somewhere with clean water source. Cheers | |
